NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN THE NEW ACADEMIC YEAR.

Contributions by Ex Students.
TV’s have been installed in all the dormitories. The TV’s were sponsored by the ex students of the batch of 1967 as part of their golden jubilee celebrations last year. So now boarders can catch up on sports and current affairs at night before lights out. The utensil washing area in the kitchen has been completely renovated. Two ex-students, Mr Saeed Sherwani and Mr Pankaj Wadhwan have donated new kitchen equipment to the school.

The SEM Ex Student’s trust has donated new smart boards for the new junior school building. Another group of ex students have donated new blackboards and LED bulbs to the school. All old blackboards and bulbs are to be replaced. This project was coordinated by ex semite Pankaj Sachdeva. This brand new website has been developed by Ex Semites Chaitanya Pande and Zain Ahmed and they will be looking after its maintainenece as well. Thanks to all these ex students for all their contributions towards bringing about improvements in the school.

New Phone Call System
There is a new system for phone calls. All boarders are allowed to call home on Sundays between 10:30 and 11: 30 am using mobile phones they have been allowed to bring from home. They are supposed to be in the quadrangle or first field during this phone call time. Visitors to school on Sunday mornings get to see the most unusual sight of boys talking to their parents on the phone while playing football or skating at the same time. Talk about multitasking.
New Path and Gate
The entrance to the College has been given a facelift. There is a new path permitting vehicular access to the quadrangle and a nice new red gate at the entrance to the school.

CELEBRATION OF ST PATRICK’S DAY
The principal reminded the students of the Irish origins of St Joseph’s College and read out the following message at morning assembly.
“I would like to inform you all that today, the 17th of March, is celebrated in Ireland and in many parts of the world as St Patrick ’s Day. It is a good day for us to remember that our founder, Blessed Edmund Rice was from Ireland. In the old days when there were many Irish brothers in our school St Patrick ’s Day was celebrated in SEM with great pomp and splendor. Over the years that tradition has faded to a distant memory. So this is to remind you that today is St Patrick ’s Day. St Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, One of the ways of celebrating St Patrick ’s Day is to wear green clothes. In some of our Christian Brother schools in India all students and staff come to school on St Patrick ’s Day wearing green clothes. Maybe someday we can start something similar in our school too. For now let us remember that it is St Patrick’s day today and we ask for his blessings on our school, our staff and students.”

Br Hector made the day more memorable for the boarders by providing them with an extra special lunch with ice cream and all. And they also had town walks that day so it was a pretty good St Patrick’s day celebration.
